Fish from natural Swiss waters cannot meet consumption needs by far. 94% of the fish consumed in Switzerland are imported. The annual approximately 3000 t domestic fish production corresponds to approx. 6% of the total fish consumption resp. about 25% of the freshwater fish consumed. Only about 1200 t of fish come from domestic farming, the greater part is supplied by professional fishermen. So there is a big demand here, which is not (yet) met.

“Aquaculture, not the Internet, represents the most promising investment opportunity of the 21st century”, quoted Nobel laureate and economist, Peter Drucker. With the expansion in world population and continuing depletion of captive fisheries, aquaculture represents the single most viable economical solution to meet the world’s growing protein demand.
